In the midst of the economic shutdown wrought by the response to the Coronavirus, the Rotary Club of Suntree has created the “Restaurants and Rescuers” program.
The club allocated $2,000 for the purchase of gift cards from local restaurants that participated in its Great Tastes of Suntree event last year.
“Our Great Tastes at Suntree wouldn’t be possible without the generosity and support of our local restaurants,” said Bill Slover, Chair of the “R&R” committee. “We also greatly appreciate the risks our first responders and health care workers currently face, and this is a great way to show that appreciation.”
While the initial outlay from the Rotary Club of Suntree was only $2,000, it appears the idea may be having a ripple effect. Upon hearing of the program, Slover’s firm, Allen & Company, said they would like to match the club’s donation of $2,000.
“Rotary’s slogan this year is ‘people of action'”, Slover said, “and there is no telling how many great ideas or how much good we will do when we’re all cooped up like this.”
